Tom Hunter's project - Unheralded Stories - is on display at the Warwick Arts Centre in Coventry, England through December 10. The series continues the artist's exploration of the Hackney neighborhood of East London through the imagery of iconic paintings, referencing artists like Delacroix and Wyeth to describe the local myths, struggles and dreams of his local community.
Additionally, Hunter's new series A Midsummer Night's Dream opens at the Royal Shakespeare Theatre, Stratford upon Avon, on November 4. Based on Shakespeare's play and the paintings of Romantic artist Henry Fuseli, the series is a contemporary reworking set in Hackney and features, among others, samba dancers, a thrash metal band, and a pole dancer. The work will be on display through April 1, 2012.
